06:34  November 29,2006, Halifax Fire Co. is toned out for a log truck upside down in the river.
The driver was able to extricate himself and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for a change of under ware.

Two heavy wreckers stabilized the cab and loader ends. It was decided to cast off the logs with the help of a medium wrecker's extra large capacity winch.
This allowed the boom arm to be chained to the head board so it wouldn't swing free.
Containment booms were placed down stream and the fuel tanks were removed.

The cab end wrecker blocked to the front with his single boom and back braced to a tree up hill.
The loader end wrecker double boomed and blocked, the truck was able to get parallel to the pull and felt confident.
The medium wrecker relocated  to a position on a parallel road 400' away and  up hill about 65' The medium wrecker attached to the center of the log truck with a web strap. Since his drum was striped care had to be taken not to stress the wire rope he was using.

Big boys play with big blocks. No soft wood here.

On the way out and on to it's wheels. Total time 9 hours.

Communication between the wrecker crews was aided by the fire co. as well as spill control ,EMT and  command and control.
Due to the expert recovery carried out by this crew, this truck will soon be back on the road supplying a living for a logging family.

Some of the wrecker crew and a  fire co. member  have attended Billy Leach Jr's Big Rig Rescue training. No one was seriously injured during this incident but if we have to work together in the future save lives, we have gained the experience and knowledge of working together  as a team.  Thank to Billy we now have a working relationship.

Thanks to the Jacksonville General store and the chiefs wife "Joan" for food. Also the VT. state police, VT. D.O.T. , Brattleboro Fire Dept. and Whitinghame Ambulance.
